EXGAE, Multiply and share forth

EXGAE is the first legal advice service specialised in liberating all individuals and author/artists from the abuses of the cultural industry trade groups.

EXGAE was born from the idea of channelling the peoples’ justified hostility towards official royalty management organisations and other cultural industry groups, such as the SGAE in Spain, and equipping people with the creative and legal skills to finally put an end to the monopoly and non-constitutionality of these groups and their private goals.

EXGAE fights, alongside the great majority of society, for the right to use alternative forms of circulation of culture.

Here is the Net, take it forth and multiply.

The Internet allows the horizontal exchange of information and culture amongst everybody. Times have changed and there in many cases there is no longer the traditional difference between originals and reproductions. This is an opportunity and a need for means of production to adapt to this new type of democracy. It should never be the other way around.

But are you still paying royalty management organisations? Now is the time to act in this new movement: these kinds of bureaucratic organisations are obsolete and hinder the free circulation of knowledge, reinforcing the elite model rather than allowing society, as a whole, to benefit, as they cynically claim.

New ways of protecting and promoting creative production now exist, and we have to promote them. As always, civil society is way ahead of the law. This is why EXGAE offers a legal consultancy service for artists and those affected by the actions of traditional royalty management organisations and other cultural industry groups.

EXGAE focuses on informing and assisting individuals (in Spain, all consumers pay the digital levy that is supposed to compensate these organisations for loss of royalties due to new technologies), and, in particular, to provide legal advice to small businesses, artists, authors and producers alike.

There are 24 organisations and individuals behind this initiative, which begins with the endorsement of almost 8000 people.

EXGAE works on five fronts:

  • Providing ongoing legal advice.
  • Analysing the social and political situation and designing proposals for intervention on legislation.
  • Organising cultural events that aim to “normalise” free culture production and diffusion practices and make them known to the general public.
  • Amplifying the potential of national and international networks, by fostering and harmonising the abilities of each node.
  • Creating viral campaigns

We are not an assistencial project. EXGAE invent and practice.
